Ronaldo deal under more scrutiny as police conduct second raid
Juventus are coming under more legal pressure with regards a “secret document” they allegedly had with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Turin side find themselves under investigation for false accounting relating to transfer practises and were raided by the authorities earlier in the week.
Tuttosport reports that there was a second raid made on the club on Friday, with Cesare Gabasio, the club’s lawyer, the latest person to become implicated in the case. President Andrea Agnelli, vice president Pavel Nedved and former sporting director Fabio Paratici are all also under the microscope.
It is stated that what the investigators in this second raid were primarily after was a document relating to Ronaldo, although what it may contain is unclear. Indeed, there is little proof that it exists at all.
However, suspicions have been further raised following a wiretapped phone call between Gabasio and sporting director Federico Cherubini, in which the pair discuss “financial statements” that would allow the authorities to “jump on their throats”.
Furthermore, there is also a discussion about making a possible fake transaction.
Tuttosport has speculated upon what this secret document may contain, including how Ronaldo could be paid during the Covid period or an agreement on arrears to him to be paid following his transfer to Manchester United.
What next for the investigation?
Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, will be summoned to speak to the authorities in the days ahead, while the Man Utd superstar may also ultimately be asked for an interview.
In the meantime, this investigation is not doing the club any favours, with reports that Paulo Dybala’s contract extension has been put on hold until the storm has blown over.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, is continuing to excel in the Premier League, having notched his 800th and 801st career goals during Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal on Thursday.
